In this episode we talk to Dr. Kris Musgraves, a good friend of mine that I went to college with. Dr. Musgraves is a rehabilitation doctor, also known as a physiatrist (pronounced Fiz – I – Atrist). A rehabilitation doctor works with patients who have an ailment that prevents them from functioning the way they did before they were sick. Dr. Musgraves has worked with everyone from stroke patients, those brain injuries, gun shot victims, veterans retrurning from war, and even children with birth defects – all patients that have a difficult time taking care of themselves and functioning like they did before they were sick. Kris came from a tough area in the Southside of Chicago and his parents dreamed of him becoming a doctor but his path was not a straight trajectory. He had to decide for himself if being a doctor was his passion or his parents’. Kris’ story is a great example of finding your own way and also shows us that our path in life is rarely if ever straight forward.
