Listen "Silence in a Year Day 48 Mysteries of the Heart "
Episode Synopsis
Have you ever had to travel away from home, maybe to a country that did not speak English and you found yourself not being able to communicate with the local people? Even in the same country words and symbols may not represent the same thing. This can cause confusion and disorientation. Effective communication and patience are key in situations such as this. The same can be said for the communication for the brain and the heart. We know what we want to say, and we say it, yet the heart that is receiving our words is not receiving them with an open heart. In today’s gospel, Mk 8, Jesus says “whoever wishes to come after Me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” That is my intent every morning when I get up and head to my prayer chair with my cup of coffee and then it happens, my brain gets distracted with the things of this world and the long list of things that need to get done and there begins the tug of war. My heart knows what it wants but my brain wants something else. Cardinal Sarah talks about how it is hard to a line human love to God’s love. I wonder, is it possible to love like God does? Maybe not, or maybe so, that would require that my heart must control my brain and not the other way around. Because God’s love flows from my heart, my heart must be in control. This will be a daily power struggle that can put me in a state of confusion, but with God in my heart, and my total surrender to him will provide clarity to what my heart needs, and that is God’s love. Is there confusion between your heart and your brain? Are they in line with God’s Love?
