Our society is overloaded with images.  Cardinal Sarah talks about our how eyelids remain incessantly open and are forced to look at a dictatorship of images that detest silence.  What works for me is to close my eyes so that I can more clearly hear and see God.  Sometimes during Mass, when I am feeling distracted, I will close my eyes during the homily so that I can just focus on the teaching that is being proclaimed.  Sometimes when I am in prayer and closing my eyes, I will see images from God–Pieta image.  When we are practicing our EM school prophetic word, I will close my eyes to more clearly see an image or hear a word from God.  But when my eyes are open, it is harder for me to be open to receiving the message of God.  He calls us to see the brilliance of the stars He has created around us, are you taking the time to see them?
