Silence in a Year Day 41 Withdraw to the Desert

Listen "Silence in a Year Day 41 Withdraw to the Desert"

Episode Synopsis

Jesus frequently withdrew from the crowd and went away by himself to pray and be with Father God. He would go into the desert without food or water and many times alone. Have you ever had to be alone, hungry, and thirsty? I have and it was not fun. The thirst and hunger pain consumed my thoughts, and I could not concentrate on anything else. But eventually there came a point where those thoughts went away. I had to become comfortable with my surroundings before I could control my feelings. But unlike me, Jesus went willingly, I would not go into the desert empty handed willingly. Why? Because I think of my physical state and not my spiritual state. We are called to withdraw during Lent and enter the desert with Jesus, fasting and praying with the sole intention of converting our hearts and making them one with God. But if we enter this desert thinking about how uncomfortable we will be, we run the risk of losing the true results that will come in the end, the conversion of our soul and the intimacy that we gain with God. Withdrawing with Jesus into His desert we have no want or need for food or drink as he feeds us with his word. I look forward for opportunities to withdraw from my environment and reconnect with Jesus each day. I find that my Lenten preparations are much more fruitful because I do not see entering the desert alone, I have Jesus with me and we withdraw together.  How do you withdraw from exterior distractions and reconnect with Jesus? Do you go willingly or avoid it at all cost? If you avoid it, why?
