Listen "608 What Is the Mark of the Beast? (The Truth About Revelation 13)"
Episode Synopsis
Wednesday, October 1st: In this episode of The Daily Grind, John unpacks one of the most misunderstood passages in Scripture: the mark of the beast in Revelation 13. Too often, the mark is tied to microchips, barcodes, or conspiracy theories about technology, but the Bible points us in a very different direction. John explores the Old Testament background in Deuteronomy 6, where God’s Word was to be bound on the forehead and hands as a symbol of shaping thoughts and actions. Revelation presents the beast’s mark as a counterfeit to God’s seal—a question of loyalty, not a secret code. For the first Christians, the mark would have been understood as allegiance to Caesar, whose worship was required to survive socially and economically. Today, the same principle applies whenever we compromise our allegiance to Jesus for comfort, convenience, or acceptance. The forehead symbolizes what shapes our thinking, and the hand represents what drives our actions. Every person is already being marked—either by the Lamb or by the beast. But John closes with hope: those who belong to Jesus are already sealed with His Spirit, secure in their identity and future. The final word is not with the beast but with the Lamb, who wins and marks His people with victory.Email me your questions, comments, and suggestions. I'd love to hear from you!
