Listen "547 — The Gregorian Mission: Augustine of Canterbury and the Conversion of England"
Episode Synopsis
Tuesday, July 8th: Today on The Daily Grind, John explores the remarkable story of the Gregorian Mission — when Pope Gregory the Great sent Augustine of Canterbury to bring Christianity to Anglo-Saxon England. Unlike the famous theologian Augustine of Hippo, this Augustine was a humble monk who braved storms, foreign lands, and pagan kings to preach Christ’s good news. King Æthelberht, influenced by his Christian queen, heard the gospel and opened his kingdom’s doors to faith. Augustine established his base in Canterbury and laid the foundation for the English Church. His mission connected England to the wider Roman Christian world. John explains how this turning point shows that courage, vision, and simple obedience can ripple through history. Today, we may not trek through dark forests to reach kings, but we’re called to cross cultural barriers with the same message. Where is God asking you to go? Tune in, be inspired, and keep saying yes.Email me your questions, comments, and suggestions. I'd love to hear from you! If y'all wanna talk more 'bout this, I'm all ears. Just give me a holler.
