Wednesday, April 16: In this powerful finale to Luke’s Gospel, John walks us through Luke 24—the chapter that takes us from despair to joy, from death to life, and from hiding to bold proclamation. Early on the first day of the week, women go to the tomb with spices, expecting to honor a dead body. Instead, they find the stone rolled away, the tomb empty, and two angels saying: “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen!” But the news seems too good to be true—so the disciples doubt, and Peter runs to see for himself. On the road to Emmaus, two heartbroken followers walk with Jesus without realizing it. He opens the Scriptures to them, showing how everything pointed to His suffering and resurrection. When He breaks bread with them, their eyes are opened—and they rush back to Jerusalem to tell the others. Jesus then appears to His disciples, offering peace, showing His wounds, and eating with them—not a ghost, but fully alive. He opens their minds to understand the Scriptures and commissions them to be witnesses of all they’ve seen. Finally, He leads them out to Bethany, blesses them, and is taken up to heaven.
