An economic crisis can cause panic and overwhelming stress-related emotions. Since the body cannot objectively distinguish between tangible and perceived threats, it responds by activating the part of the brain that triggers quick reactions to ensure survival. However, most stressful situations someone will encounter are not immediately life-threatening; therefore, it is critical to learn how to use logic in one’s responses rather than instinct. Coaches can assist their clients in achieving this by helping them to utilize tools that acknowledge the feeling that is being experienced and the specific circumstances that are causing them. This allows the rational brain to move through the chaos and enables clients to think critically about the situation and determine the best course of action based on the identified pros and cons.
