Listen "Ep42 Finding your Self-Compassion"
Episode Synopsis
Send us a textWhat does it mean to have Self-Compassion, why is it important? How can we practice self-compassion and what is the impact of this on how we interact and engage with family, friends and colleagues? We look at the research from the most prolific self-compassion author Dr Kristin Neff and her look at Fierce and Tender Self-Compassion and the role of each for helping us to extend compassion and understanding towards oneself in times of suffering or perceived failure, rather than harsh self-criticism or judgment. Why are some people self-critical or prone to self-pity, and how can we help them to move towards having more constructive, kind, yet challenging self-talk?The Chief Psychology Officer episodes are available here https://www.thecpo.co.uk/To follow Zircon on LinkedIn and to be first to hear about podcasts, publications and news, please like and follow us: https://www.linkedin.com/company/zircon-consulting-ltd/To access the research white papers mentioned in this and other podcasts, please go to: https://zircon-mc.co.uk/zircon-white-papers.phpFor more information about the BeTalent suite of tools and platform as mentioned in this podcast please contact Amanda via email: [email protected]· 00:00 – Introduction to Self-Compassion· 01:06 – I’m no good at this; you all must suffer!· 02:18 – Defining Self-Compassion· 03:21 – We can’t shout at children anymore?· 04:20 – Talking to ourselves· 04:49 – I’m my own best friend… except on LinkedInMy, Myself and the Confidence Machine· 06:07 – The way we were…· 07:01 – Use your words (just the right ones)· 08:10 – Conversations with Children· 09:03 – Pessimism: a Great British trait· 11:12 – Learn to appreciate yourself· 11:54 – Self-pity· 12:22 – A weighty issue· 15:21 – The gym revolutionThe lessons from the past· 16:28 – Fierce Compassion v.
