Jesus helps us cope and gives us hope as he lifts the brokenhearted and those who seek him. If the people in your life were to be interviewed about you, would they say you are a people-lifter? I've been thinking about Dick Feiertag, a life-long friend of mine who recently slipped away to be with Jesus. Dick was a people-lifter who, like Jesus, helped people cope and gave them hope! Dick showed how the blend of friendship and leadership is not only possible, but that it leads to life-long relationships of encouragement. Jesus said, "I have called you friends" to the very people to whom he said, "follow me!" While you focus on the goals you want to see accomplished with other people, also focus on the people as people – people to be valued – people to be friends with – people who cope and who need hope, as we all do.
