Listen "Corticosteroid(Cortisone) Injections are bad for Tendons!"
Episode Synopsis
Cortisone is a powerful anti-inflammatory and it may provide some pain relief as well. For some conditions it can appropriate and even be curative... but the majority of the time doctors treat it as a pain reliever for joint and tendon pain (trochanteric bursitis, epicondylitis, chronic tendinitis). It is not recommended for tendon pathologies as it can weaken the tendon: lead to tendon ruptures and/or more pain later. Also, these diagnoses: trochanteric bursitis, epicondylitis, chronic tendinitis, are commonly thought to be inflammatory (hence the "-itis") but they are most often not inflammatory and are more likely a tendinosis, tendon tear, or muscle pain.
