Episode Synopsis "Creative Project 253 David Krepps"
This podcast was created to have the opportunity to think about what it would feel like to live in Baghdad during the time that Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi was set. The podcast uses the introductory scene of Hadi from the view of a foreigner to try to explain and empathize with how a person such as Hadi could be put into a position where he would need to come up with some way to cope with everything going on around him. A podcast format was chosen because it allows the story to be told from a first person narrator perspective and to draw the listener in as if a friend like themselves is retelling a story. These objectives were met by creating Daniel Martin an American reporter of Iraqi decent with a podcast. Christianity has a long history in Iraq as it is believed by most Biblical scholars that Daniel from the Lion’s den fame lived most of his life in Iraq. Next, Dan gives a short history of what is happening in Iraq at the time this book is set. Dan recounts a story from his point of view looking at the details of the scene to draw the listener and to create empathy to Hadi’s situation. Dan puts the listener in his shoes and asks questions to try to understand why Hadi would react the way he did. Dan explains by his own experience why people would need to learn ways to cope with the situation. Hadi’s creation of Whatsitsname is really just a way to cope with what is happening.
