Yesterday was a tough day.
A family member lost someone close to them.
And the world lost singer/songwriter John Prine.
I felt that deeply because Prine wrote a song called "Hello in there." It’s a song about the loneliness of growing old.
My recent book was about the stories of old people and what we can learn from our elders. The opening quote in the book was from John Prine’s song, Hello In There.
The words go:
"Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger
And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello”
As we are mostly confined to our homes, the trees and rivers are growing stronger and wilder everyday.
And many of us are growing lonesome.
But there is a way through this, a path to healing.
