Senzo Mchunu, the national Police Minister, was placed on special leave following serious allegations of political interference, corruption, and collusion with organised crime. The allegations were first made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who claimed that Mchunu ordered the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) and interfered in investigations.
