Listen "Episode 12 - A Catcher in the Clockwork Cuckoo's Nest with Dr. Mark Malaby"
Episode Synopsis
Welcome to Season 2 of the Thank You Notes Podcast.
My guest is Mark Malaby. He was my Language and Composition teacher at Cascia Hall high school in Tulsa, OK. We talk about his teaching process (or rather lack thereof), the toils and troubles of high school, and share a few book recommendations.
I thank Mr. Malaby for creating a class that was built upon pushing the students out of their comfort zones. Surviving that class made me feel like I could tackle anything that was put in my way for the rest of my academic career.
Mr. Malaby wrote a thank you note to 3 of his mentors who saved him from personal and professional ruin throughout his career. The guidance these men gave him allowed Mark to become the teacher he was always meant to be.
We end the pod talking about his dream job, which he currently holds, as the director of the McPherson County Learning Center in McPherson, KS. He helps people who have struggled in the past obtain their high school diploma later in life through "trauma informed" teaching.
Mr. Malaby recommended the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
I recommended Finding Ultra by Rick Roll
