Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. It’s a good day for matters of the heart…so we are chatting once again with Dr. Paolo Madeddu at the University of Bristol. He and his team have discovered a gene mutation among some regional populations where many residents live to be one hundred or more…including his native southern Italy. And they believe in time…they will be able to provide a way to transfer that genetic mutation to those who need it. The first human trials are probably two to three years away. Meanwhile…he points out…the discovery does not mean diet and exercise are any less important..
“So it is also a combination between environment and genes. You can have good genes but if you don’t eat well, the probability to reach 100 years of age is very low.”
