Episode Synopsis
Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. The demand for battery storage and batteries for electric vehicles continues to rise and nearly all of the lithium carbonate needed to produce those batteries comes from overseas. GeoFrame Energy, however, aims to change that. It is breaking ground this summer on a lithium carbonate production facility in East Texas. CEO Bruce Cutright…“The U.S. uses about 60 thousand metric tons of lithium carbonate today in battery manufacturing, predominantly. We’ll be able to meet that demand, plus about 20 thousand more metric tons above the demand today. Now in three years or five years, the demand is expected to grow.”With AI data center energy needs being a key driver along with EVs.
