- Adroitly; in a clever or skilful way.
- Linnæan;the Linnean Society of London is the world’s oldest active society devoted to natural history. Founded in 1788 by Sir James Edward Smith (1759–1828), who was its first President, the Society takes its name from the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778) whose botanical, zoological and library collections have been in our keeping since 1829.
- Tübingen; a city in Germany.
- Cadger; one who begs habitually or for a living: almsman, almswoman, beggar, mendicant.
- Nebuchadnezzar; a bottle for wine holding 20 quarts (18.9 liters). (I can only assume they mean he goes through drunken phases here).
- Attenuated; having been reduced in force, effect, or value.
- Interstices; an intervening space, especially a very small one.
