Episode Synopsis

Part of our series on Judges. Israel repeats their cycle of doing evil again. Ehud died and they did what was evil in God’s sight. They cry out for help and God answers them by sending His Word to Barak through the prophetess
Deborah. This is unusual in many ways. Prophets were typically men, and the judges were typically men.
Nonetheless, God used both Deborah and Barak to accomplish His plan for His people. Barak certainly
makes mistakes and lacks faith. He is not a perfect example of a faithful leader, yet God chooses to use
him and give him victory. There is such a beautiful balance of the imperfection of Barak and the
faithfulness of God. So much so that Barak is listed among the heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11. He was
imperfect, his faith was imperfect, his response was imperfect. Yet in this imperfection, God used this
imperfect offering of faith and Barak is forever heralded as a hero of the faith. Why? God uses imperfect
people and continues to show us repeatedly that we can trust Him with all things because He is
sovereign over all things. Furthermore, God uses unlikely characters like Jael and Deborah to bring about
His plan for many reasons. Not the least of which is that we know that this could only be done in God’s
strength with His power. He gets the credit and the glory, and we get to be part of His story and plan.
