In ancient times there was a great sage named Shantanu, his wife was Amogha.
Once Amogha consumed Brahmabeej, that resulted into a stream of water from her nostrils. That stream of water filled the Brahmakund.
The river originating from Brahmakund is called Brahmaputra, because of emerging from Brahmabeej.
