Very excited to have this special guest on board the sunset grooves train. Having heard him live for the first time over 5 years ago as well as doing a few b2b's it was always evident that we wanted to share a mix from Ama:rú aka Aquiles. He has such finesse with his track selection and his subtle way with his transitions make for smooth as butter mixes! He is part of the original crew who put together the well respected label @niewiederschlafen and the fact he has mixed at various key clubs and festivals within Berlin and around the world just shows how much he is appreciated whenever he is behind the decks. Just over 2 hours of wonderful music that will fit perfectly for your summer evenings. Make sure to follow his page and if you happen to be in Berlin, make sure to look out for Ama:rú on the line up :)

Vielen dank for the super mix!

Interview with Aquiles

Good afternoon Aquiles 😊 I hope you agree to answer a few random and fun questions to share with our listeners?

Sure! :)

Q: To start you off tell us what song puts you in a good mood when you wake up in the morning?

*To be honest: I am a morning radio listener. I’m happy to hear some random music and to get first updates about what happened in the world. :)*

Q: Now should you ever, but let’s hope not, be stuck on an island, which music album would you bring with you and why?

*This is a tough one. There are a few albums that come to mind like Abbey Road, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Led Zeppeling IV that are timeless genius pieces of music. But being stuck on an island I would probably go for ‘Wish you were here’.*

Q: Moving on to serious issues, what is your favourite cocktail to drink during a sunset?

*I’d go for a Gin Basil Smash. Then a Whiskey Sour. And just stick to Rum n Coke - in exactly that order!*

Q: Once the global pandemic is over, which festival would be the one you would go to first and why? (it could be a club, if you got no festival in mind)

*Most definitely Garbicz. With over a decade of festival experience I can say that I never experienced a place where electronic music is celebrated on such a constant level of perfection. It’s out of this world.*

Q: Which artist/band do you secretly love but you are embarrassed to admit? (i.e. you have been to their concert, you know the lyrics.)

*Haha! Good one - right now I mostly listen to electronic, independent, classical and sometimes salsa music. Nothing I am embarrassed about. But in the past I have some artist I have secretly loved - like Alicia Keys. I actually went to a concert of hers! Always been a big fan of watching soul music with a live band.*

Q: If you could open a show for any artist, who would it be and why?

*Mano le Tough. For me one of the best DJs out there atm.*

Q: Lastly, regarding this mix you have done for us, can you tell us a little bit of your thought process behind choosing the tracks you chose?

*I would say it is not the typical set I would play in a club. More of a mix for a sunset somewhere ;) These are all tracks I have enjoyed over the last 3-4 month. I usually try to listen to as much new music as possible and always save my favorites. After a while I go back to these favorites and start making a final selection. It’s amazing how much your own personal mood can influence your selection of tracks. Sometimes I go back to some tracks I saved and think to myself: “what the #!/§?? - did I really like this?” But well, these tracks in the mix are all tracks I still love! And I tried to put together a variety of tracks from opening tracks to more club sounds.*

Thank you Aquiles for your time and wonderful mix!
