Listen "Break Our Hearts | Romans"
Episode Synopsis
This week on the Compassion Podcast, Pastor Jamie and Pastor Tommy open up Romans 9 with a conversation that will stir your soul and challenge your heart.Paul writes in Romans 9 with tears in his eyes, grieving deeply for Israel, a people blessed with the covenants, the promises, and the glory of God, yet so many missed that Jesus is the Messiah. His heart was shattered for those who rejected Christ.Does our heart break for people the way Paul’s did? When we see someone struggling with Christ, is our first instinct compassion or superiority? Paul teaches us that the tone of our theology must be love. He shows us that rebellion and disobedience don’t just break rules, they break the very heart of God.Isaiah 63:10 says, “They rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit,” and Psalm 78:40 reminds us that Israel “grieved Him in the desert.” Our rebellion wounds Him not because He is distant, but because He is a Father, and the rebellious heart of children brings grief to a parent more than anger. To grieve the Spirit is to sadden the very One who seals us for redemption (Ephesians 4:30).Pastor Jamie and Pastor Tommy unpack:What it means to grieve the Spirit with our words, attitudes, and actions. Why God’s promises never fail, even when His people do.How belonging to God has never been about pedigree, family, or performance, it has always been about His promise, received by faith in Christ. Why having a “religious background” is not the same as being born again. How Paul’s heart for Israel models how we should ache for our neighbors who don’t know Jesus. They remind us: Everyone has a story, but all need Jesus. It’s like carrying a winning lottery ticket in your pocket but never cashing it in, you may hold the promise, but without Christ you’re missing the reward. The prayer is simple yet powerful: “Lord, break our hearts for what breaks Yours. Help us to weep for the lost, pray with urgency, and witness with boldness, until every story finds its fulfillment in You.”PLUS: A Special InvitationWe’re just days away from our Young Adults Night happening Friday, September 26!
