Listen "1997 Devilbiss 400 (2nd Michigan)"
Episode Synopsis
The 21st race of the Winston Cup season would be run at Michigan. This was the 2nd visit to the track in the Irish Hills. Ernie Irvan won the race in June and Bill Elliott finished second. Both were among the favorites for victory at the wide D-shaped oval. Roush Racing was in the midst of an excellent season. All three drivers were in the top 10 in points. Mark Martin and Jeff Burton had two wins a piece. Ted Musgrave's excellent Summer performance had moved him into 8th in points. Musgrave looked poised to pick up his first career win. Could defending race champion Dale Jarrett bounce back from disappointing finish at Watkins Glen last week? Will Jeff Gordon win for the first time ever at Michigan? Should crew chiefs prioritize horsepower or fuel economy? Take a listen and find out which driver and manufacturer will get bragging rights in the shadow of the Motor City.
