KEY TAKEAWAYS
My grandmother was a friend and mentor to me. She was a photographer who had worked in Hollywood and photographed Marilyn Monroe and Malcolm X and went to communist Russia and China in the 1970s. She had a great attitude, chutzpah, she wasn’t held back by the idea that something couldn’t be done just because it hadn’t been done before.
Some patients I see want to wait to wait for their fear to subside before facing it, but facing it, recognising it and validating it is much better for you than hiding from it.
Practice allowing. If you have a feeling or emotion trapped in your body and you can locate it, sit with it a while and notice what it feels like then you can release it. You’ll notice the tension in your body dissipate and the emotion can change into one that feels better.
I was suffering from insomnia for a long time after a friend of mine committed suicide. My mother suggested I try acupuncture. After my first session I felt like something had shifted, I felt lighter and I could feel emotions and warmth from the people around me. My acupuncturist said he’d noticed that I was cut off from the world and had treated that, he suggested that I should grieve for my friend, which I hadn’t done. When I did allow it I felt a sense of peace, pushing away the emotion was causing me suffering and had caused my insomnia. Within six weeks my sleep was back to normal but the sense of peace stayed with me.
BEST MOMENTS
‘These days people worry that they haven’t ‘made it’ if they haven’t done so before their 30s which isn’t true.’
‘The more you stretch yourself outside your comfort zone the more fulfilled you’ll be.’
‘I’d much rather risk looking stupid than give up on something I’m passionate about.’
‘Crisis is often necessary for evolution, both on a personal level or a global level. We all have immense power within.’
ABOUT THE GUEST
While studying Neuroscience at University College London (UCL) Michael started to suffer from insomnia. A friend suggested he try acupuncture and he was blown away by the results. Within six weeks Michael had no difficulty sleeping. Not only that, but he started to feel more vibrant and happier than ever before.
To find out more he began looking into the scientific literature. For his final project at UCL Michael designed and carried out a small placebo-controlled trial of acupuncture for pain relief.
He became convinced of its effectiveness above and beyond a mere placebo. Michael then undertook a three year accredited training at the School of Five Element Acupuncture (SOFEA).
The more he learned about acupuncture the more he was amazed by its insights into the workings of the human body and mind.
As well as diagnosis and treatment methods, he learned about patients' concerns and fears and how to put people at ease.
Michael continues to work in the field of acupuncture research. He has been involved in a large review of the evidence for acupuncture's role in the treatment of depression. This was published by the Cochrane Collaboration - a reliable source of evidence in health care.
In 2015 he opened his own acupuncture school.

ABOUT THE HOST
Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.
Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.
Why?
Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!
How?
Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
