This Sunday, we come to one of Phill's favourite stories in the Old Testament. Jacob, known to be a bit of a charlatan and swindler, is on the run for his life for stealing from his brother Esau, when he dreams of a staircase reaching down from Heaven to Earth.

This dream forever changes Jacobs’s life, opening him up to a new reality in which this world is filled with God’s presence. But this isn’t the last time we hear of this staircase hundreds of years later, Jesus makes a striking claim about himself, which only makes sense once we have understood what happened to Jacob on a dark night in the middle of nowhere.

This Sunday, we will look at who Jacob is and why he received this dream, what the dream means, how Jesus is a staircase, and what this means for us today.
