Listen "Do No Harm"
Episode Synopsis
Hello. For today’s podcast, I want to share insights from a recent meeting with a colleague. It was a profound experience that highlighted how two people with differing views could still maintain a relationship built on respect, honor, and dignity. Despite discussing topics that could typically inflame others, we managed to respect each other’s differing views and focus on the core issue. This scenario has broader implications. Imagine if everyone could recognize that each person holds a unique worldview without labeling anyone as right or wrong. If we could discard notions of right and wrong and instead assess if our behavior harms another human being, our interactions would change dramatically. The guiding principle should be to do no harm to others. If we truly examined our thoughts, beliefs, and behavior choices to ensure they didn’t harm others, the outcomes of our collective actions would improve. While this may seem idealistic and hard to achieve given the world's population, it’s a goal worth striving for. It’s unfortunate that it might take a catastrophic event, like an asteroid heading toward Earth, to unite us in this common cause. But do we really have to wait for such an event? Applying the rule of not harming each other could potentially save humanity. This principle also includes not harming ourselves. For example, if I choose not to harm someone else but end up harming myself, I need to reconsider my behavior. This doesn't mean avoiding inconvenience or hard choices; it means ensuring our actions don't cause undue harm. Even large corporations need to evaluate their practices: making millions by harming others is unacceptable. No one on this planet has the right to harm another individual. Our shared right is to love and treat each other with respect, dignity, and honor. I extend a heartfelt thank you to my friend who participated in the meeting and agreed to let me base this podcast on our discussion. In the future, I may reveal more about them, and we might even co-host a podcast to demonstrate how respectful, honorable, and dignified discussions on controversial topics can happen without harming one another. I’m grateful to have friends with whom I can engage in these meaningful conversations. I appreciate you, my friend, for your respect and dignity during our discussions. And to all my listeners, thank you for joining me today. I’ll see you all tomorrow.
