Episode Synopsis
(28 minutes) In this episode, hosts Haley Moss and Dr. Lori Butts welcome back Mikhaela Ackerman to discuss autistic-friendly yoga. Mikhaela Ackerman was diagnosed with ASD when she was 5 years old back in the early 90s and nonverbal in her early childhood. Mikhaela is a certified yoga instructor and creates yoga classes specifically designed for neurodivergent people. Additionally, she founded a blog “Edge of the Playground” in February 2018 to help individuals on the autism spectrum with life transitions and their families. Mikhaela is a contributing author on The Mighty, Mental Health Talk and many more. She regularly appears for autism speaking events and conducts autism trainings for parents, educators, and medical professionals. Mikhaela earned her Juris Doctorate in law in 2016 and currently works in legal compliance. The three discuss Mikhaela’s history teaching yoga to neurodiverse people, shares tips for having positive yoga experiences, and offers advice on finding the right studio for you.
