Episode Synopsis

In this episode, hosts Lauren Gerber Ms. Ed., PSY. D. and Becca Lory, CAS, BCCS speak with Dr. Gil Lichtshein. Dr. Lichtshein ("Dr. Gil") is Board Certified in General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He also is a TMS practitioner, one of only a handful of psychiatrists in South Florida utilizing TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) a non-pharmacological, non-invasive form of neuromodulation which uses highly focused, MRI-strength alternating magnetic pulses to target the brain in those areas where under-activity or dysfunction is linked to depression or other neuropsychiatric disorders. Dr. Gil discusses what TMS is and the effects it can have on patients on the spectrum, other options for treating symptoms that come with an autism diagnosis, and the care doctors should take in prescribing medications to patients with sensitive systems.
