Listen "Using How-To Instructional Text for Bilingual Reading"
Episode Synopsis
Implementing different instructional texts can encourage bilingual learners to read. Using how-to instructional bilingual texts helps students grasp the sequence of events and instructions.
Perhaps, using projects can sometimes be challenging for bilingual learners. There are many steps to follow, and they may wonder how to start. Use simple projects like making s’mores or a bird feeder to encourage following a sequence of events.
In this brief bilingual story, bilingual readers practice moving from one sequence of events to another. The little bear cubs follow mama bear step-by-step until they reach their destination. This activity also includes practicing numbers in English and Spanish.
