Episode Synopsis

On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by returning guest Rebecca Wheele to have another of their unplanned, free-wheeling conversations that could go anywhere, but forces them to be in the moment.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
I notice my mind sometimes can’t help but wander: “I’ve got this to do”, “I need to email this person back”, “What am I going to do about this problem tomorrow”, and I feel that a lot of time we miss the real possibility for a deeper connection in that moment because the mind likes to wander. If we’re not aware of it, it distracts us from being in that moment. I’m trying to practice being immersed in that moment.
There’s so much depth to us as humans. If it was an iceberg, we’d be presenting the tip of the iceberg to the majority of people, but there’s so much going on beneath the surface. By suppressing that down and not expressing them – journaling is a fantastic way to express – I believe that suppressed energy creates toxicity somehow in the body. It’s important to have people that can hold space for you without judgement to talk to about things.
We’ve got the conscious mind, the subconscious mind and the unconscious mind. A lot of the patterns that play out in our lives that we’re unconscious of, other people around us that we’ve got that dynamic with can often see that much more clearly than we can. It’s called the shadow for a reason because we’re in the dark. By having that mirror, or someone planting seeds, or even tough love, it’s really needed for you to become conscious of what you’re doing. Our awareness expands from that. And it’s an ever evolving process.
Finding an outlet is really key in being able to express. I feel a lot of the time, in society, there’s a pressure for there to be a reason to do something: We need things to achieve, to have success, to grow, to be fast, to be better. There’s actually a beautiful opportunity in doing something just to do it, to express, to experience, to feel, to just be in the moment.
BEST MOMENTS
‘Expression is something I’ve been really thinking about recently, it’s such an important thing because it’s releasing energy.’
‘From a young age I’d express myself through painting, drawing, collage, and all forms of art. More recently I’ve been expressing through dance and I’ve found that so powerful. There’s something in dance where, to be in the moment, you release all self-consciousness.’
‘When you’re at the top of a diving board, thinking about the cold water, if you zoom out from it and actually know how you’re going to feel once you’ve dived, the release of everything that goes along with that, there’s a feeling of achievement and growth and you can see the benefit of doing it.’
