Episode Synopsis

In this episode, we discuss the concepts of Emptiness vs. Stillness.
A lot of spiritual concepts of awakening revolve around the idea that you have to empty the mind to experience a spiritual awakening. This is an illusion and not how it works. Spiritual awakening happens all the time, our egos trick us into believing we have to achieve perfect emptiness to be able to say we have achieved anything at all. This is the deeper illusion.
Stillness is the real key, and the one the ego does its best to hide from us so that we stay stuck in our patterns of false emotional joy and activity. Stillness is much different than emptiness and operates as a space of active participation and observation of the mind, the heart and the body all at the same time. Stillness is about true alignment with our heart and our capacity to observe and teach ourselves how to live in a constant space of awareness of self. Stillness is about transforming attachment to the process into a quiet space of letting go and allowing the process to be whatever it needs to be.
The mind, the heart, the soul are never empty and cannot ever be empty for the same reason that energy can never be destroyed, it just changes. When we learn to strop our minds is when we awaken to stillness. Stopping the mind does not mean ending the mind's activity, it means ending the attachment to the mental patterns that try and tell us who we are.
