Episode Synopsis

Dynamics Music Activities with "Skidamarink a Dink" (3 part compilation)I'm sharing some different teaching strategies you can use to teach DYNAMICS in the elementary music classroom. FREE SKIDAMARINK ACTIVITY This video is part #2 of a 3 part series. Video #1 has teaching strategies for singing the song and learning the lyrics. MUSIC DYNAMICS ACTIVITIES PART #1I've included this teaching video to help you in your classroom, and the how to video too! https://youtu.be/cnshudn4iAo TEACH THE SONGYou can take a look at the other video and blog post, but here's an outline of how to teach the song.First have the students pat the beat as you sing the song or use the recording.Teach the lyricsEcho clap the rhythms of the words.Echo sing a line at a time.Sing the whole song.DYNAMICS & FORM OF THE SONGIn  section A I’ll have the students sing very quietly and then gradually get loud at the end of each section. In section B I’ll have them begin quiet and get loud in each sentence like this:SECTION ASkidamarinka Dinka dinkSkidamarinka dooI love you!BI love you in the morning and in the afternoon.I love you in the evening and underneath the moon. After we sing it with dynamics, I’ll teach them the actions. Now we’re ready to put it all together .DIFFERENTIATE ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT LEARNING GOALSI've always felt that it's important to differentiate the activities to support the lessons learning goals.Since we're focusing on dynamics, we'll want to choose activities that will help students differentiate between LOUD and SOFT.Have students choose body percussion actions that reflect LOUD and SOFT. PATCLAPSNAPSTOMPAsk which ones are LOUD?Which ones are SOFT?Then you can have them play a game.BODY PERCUSSION GAMEChoose 4 actions.Begin with one action.Play patterns of four for 4 beats each. Teacher uses a drum or piano for students to play along.Divide the class into two groups.Choose a leader for each group.Tell the students the pattern, or have them choose one.Team A plays the pattern 4 times. Teacher decides if they play it correctly and score.Team B repeat the process. When it is NOT their turn, have the students do a silent move on the beat. If could be tapping their nose, swaying or waving hands in the air. That way everyone is busy.Repeat until it's time for the game to end.DYNAMICS with SCARF MOVEMENTIt's fun to play with scarves to learn dynamics.Ask students to show you how loud might look. It's helpful to play some music for them to respond to.Then have them show you how soft/quiet might look. Support the showThank you for listening to this Podcast! We appreciate sharing these activities with teachers and parents from around the world.Helping us continue to provide this podcast is easy! All you need to do is SUBSCRIBE CONNECT WITH US:Sing Play Create Website: www.singplaycreate.comTpT StoreSing Play Create Teaching Tips YouTube ChannelSing Play Create Kids Educational Music ChannelSing Play Create with Sandra Hendrickson.
