Jesus never talked directly about parenting, but he did provide the command that would provide the foundation, not just for parenting, but for all relationships. It was a command that focused on behavior. He said, “A new command I give you: Love one another as I have loved you.”

This is a command that challenges the why and the who of parenting, because it asks parents to put the needs of their children ahead of their own. It forces parents to ask an important question: “Am I more concerned about my reputation or my children?” “Am I wrapped up in how my children make me look or how they look, how they are doing?”
