Listen "Perceptive Audio - The Bolt (SF) #22 - 2-9-77"
Episode Synopsis
Randall Schiller gave me a small stack of reel to reel tapes from The Bolt bar in San Francisco (Thanks Randy!). The Bolt was located in the same space that is currently The Powerhouse on Folsom Street, between 9th and 10th. Two of the tapes that Randy gave me were covered in mold (see before and after photos below) I spent an hour hand cleaning the mold off of the tape. After 4 slow passes of wiping the mold off, it was clean and ready to transfer to digital.
If you were to step into The Bolt in 1977, this is the soundtrack you would have heard being played in the bar. A mix of rock, soul, and early disco. These bar tapes were made by Sanford Kellman (who later owned The IBeam) and Mel Ford. It was a mixtape service for bars around San Francisco.
