Truth matters. Why? Because the GOSPEL is the GOSPEL OF TRUTH! When we fudge the truth in any scenario, we compromise and undermine the gospel by our testimony, out witness. The Ninth Commandment deals with not just lying, but specifically bearing false testimony or slandering a neighbor. Jesus defines our neighbor as anyone and everyone we come into contact with. There is never a good reason to withhold truth. Furthermore, even partial truth becomes an untruth as it erodes trust. Truth SHOULD BE an obvious mark of the disciple.
