In the film Shawshank Redemption, a prisoner named Red (played by Morgan Freeman) says to his friend Andy, “Let me tell you something, my friend: Hope is a dangerous thing. It will drive a man insane in a place like this. It’s got no place here. Better get used to that idea.” He’s right. Hope is a dangerous thing, and it can definitely drive you insane. I agree—but with one caveat. Hope is only dangerous if you place it in the wrong object. Let’s make sure we’re aiming our hopes in the right direction and attaching them to the right person.
