Listen "#19 A Surprising Spiritual Discipline"
Episode Synopsis
During today's conversation on Scripture & Story, we are going to explore an unlikely and surprising spiritual discipline. Discipline isn’t a well-loved word in our culture; we much prefer comfort and rest. Discipline is defined as "training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior." And training is hard. It requires time, effort, and repetition. But the reality is, nothing of significance is ever attained without discipline. When we think of spiritual disciplines, we often think of things we should do as Christians, but have very little desire to do. Read our Bibles. Pray. Fast. Worship. Sabbath. Solitude. Spiritual disciplines are habits and practices that enhance our spiritual growth and enable us to grow to spiritual maturity. They are intentional life rhythms that lead to spiritual formation. When we engage in the disciplines, and consequently grow in intimacy with Jesus, we move from duty to delight. But there is one spiritual discipline that you may be surprised to see on the list of disciplines. This practice causes joy, praise, and thanksgiving to bubble up within us. It leads to laugher and song. And practicing this discipline leads to a fuller experience of God’s goodness. Are you curious about this spiritual discipline?
