We look at the origins of the cruise industry in transporting mail and passengers and how it developed so that the journey became more important than the destination. Initially the preserve of the rich and famous it has evolved to become accessible to all. Scotland has capitalised on this demand and cruise passengers now make a major contribution to the economy - but success doesn’t come without its challenges.
