Some Reasons to Warm Up to Warm Springs

Listen "Some Reasons to Warm Up to Warm Springs"

Episode Synopsis

This week, Scott is speaking to Interpretive Ranger Ashley Aultman at the Roosevelt Little White House Historic Site in Warm Springs, Georgia. How Roosevelt's friend George Foster Peabody was responsible for getting FDR to travel to middle Georgia to experience the warm springs for himself in 1924, well before the presidency, looking for relief if not a cure to the polio that continued to leave him immobile and in pain. Now the Little White House is frozen in time just as it was the day FDR died in 1945. And something you might not know: how the relations Roosevelt had with the people of Georgia profoundly influenced him to create The New Deal, including getting electricity to farmers in rural America. Saturday June 7, FDR portrayer James Fowler will recreate how Roosevelt briefed the nation about D-Day, then leading America in what has become known as the D-Day Prayer. https://gastateparks.org/LittleWhiteHouse
