Listen "12-20-22: Combating chronic loneliness"
Episode Synopsis
I would love to hear from you, just send me text and let me know what you think of the podcast.Today as we approach Christmas and New Years I wanted to talk about the importance of social connection. As it turns out, chronic loneliness is more likely to lead to a premature death than smoking or many other chronic health conditions. Worse than that and AARP study done over 10 years ago found that 42 million Americans over the age of 45 suffered from chronic loneliness. So how do we confront this loneliness epidemic that has been slowing building and continues to get worse after COVID and as a result of the distractions of social media?Well, simply put it takes work but it’s easy. Pick up the phone and call that friend you have been thinking about. Ask a coworker to go to coffee, join a book club or go back to church. There are endless ways to connect with other people but it needs to be face-to-face or at the very least on the phone TALKING. It’s more important for your health than diet or exercise and the holidays are a time to get motivated to build new connections rather than be stuck feeling like you wish you had more of them.
