Listen "Episode 48: Bill Casher on Intentionality and Impact as a Way of Life"
Episode Synopsis
This week we’re talking to Bill Casher, a runner, father, scientist, and member of the Anti-racist Run Club (formerly known as SF Runners for Equality). Bill grew up playing sports but it wasn’t until later in life that he discovered his love for running. He ran his first marathon with his twin brother in 2012 and hasn’t stopped running since. Bill shares the origins of the Anti-Racist Run Club, what inspired him to join, and how powerful it is to share the group runs and conversations with his children. As a scientist who has been working on COVID treatments, we talk about what this past year has taught us all about the power of collaboration, determination, and speed when it comes to science, running, activism, and community.
Some highlights from our conversation:
✨ What sparked the name change from SF Runners for Equality to the Anti-Racist Run club
👨👦👦 How being a father shaped how he talks about racism
🏃🏿♂️ How running creates space for deep conversations
🌎 Why he doesn’t want to leave any of life’s experiences on the table
🤩 How having a twin brother gave him confidence in the marathon
⌚️ Why he never runs with a watch when he’s running with others
💫 Intentionality and being present
🗣 How he found his voice as a community organizer and leader
⚡️Impact as a way of life
🙌🏾 The parallels between activism and endurance sports
🔬 How COVID has shown us what’s possible when people collaborative and move quickly
