Listen "Episode 38: Corrine Malcolm Asks, If You Do an FKT In The Woods And No One's There to See It, Did It Happen?"
Episode Synopsis
This week’s episode is with professional trail runner, coach, and self proclaimed “science nerd” Corrine Malcolm. Corrine is a professional trail runner who is sponsored by Adidas. She started her athletic career as a skier and then was recruited to become a biathlete! Her success in biathlon led her to the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, but just before the 2014 Olympics everything came crashing down. Her love of science, good friends, and running helped her define who she was as a person and athlete after “retiring” from biathlon at 24. Corrine shares her journey with her athletic identity, her recent FKT on the 171-mile Tahoe Rim Trail, and being her own guinea pig when it comes to research and exercise science.
Some highlights from our conversation:
How her competitive nature makes it hard to this day to play board games
What is emotionally sustainable training versus physically sustainable
How the pandemic is a gift to anyone who has struggled with overtraining
How Krissy Moehl and Magda Boulet inspired her Tahoe Rim Trail FKT
Running while hallucinating
What it’s like to set an FKT at 2am with a toilet paper finish line
Her love of science and being her own guinea pig
