Dr. Derise Tolliver on African-centered psychology.After we encountered some technical difficulties, Dr. Akilah Martin and I are able to offer our entire interview with Dr. Derise E. Tolliver  Derise Tolliver, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Illinois. Her life mission is to help people “re-member” who they truly are.  She has facilitated this through her teaching, scholarship, service, and being.  Dr. Tolliver retired from her day job in 2019 where she was a tenured Associate Professor at the then School for New Learning, DePaul University.  While there, Dr. Tolliver directed university-level short-term study abroad programs to West Africa, has accompanied high school students to Cuba, and has directed a BA degree completion program for adult learners in Nairobi, Kenya.  Professionally, she has written and presented on African-centered education and psychology, spirituality and culture, adult learning, competency-based education, international education and program development, happiness, creativity, health, wellness, and healing from racism and oppression.  In post-retirement from the day job, Dr. Tolliver has continued to expand her own learning and professional writing activities.  She has served as a facilitator of learning for youth who attend an African-centered school that is based in Georgia.  Dr. Tolliver is active in the local chapter of the Association of Black Psychologists.  She also spends time reading, writing poetry, writing songs, painting, tending to her indoor and outdoor gardens, and volunteering at a local community farm.  She lives in gratitude and finds something to be joyful about and to laugh at every day.Dr. Derise Tolliver TED Talk: Sankofa: Going Back to Fetch Your Inner Voice Articles Stepteau-Watson, D., Tolliver, D.
