Listen "Trauma: It's Too Much Part IV: Church Trauma"
Episode Synopsis
Churches are imperfect because they are made up of imperfect people. That’s fair. But we can’t dismiss that churches ought to be places where certain abuses do not and should not occur; and when those in positions of power deliberately use their positions to lure and abuse those who are seeking refuge in Christ—trauma results. Going further we also recognize that not all trauma is the result of outright abuse, some is the result of poor teaching, intentionally or unintentionally, leading to confusion and misapplication. This saying is true: What most people believe about the Bible isn’t what the Bible says—it's what someone else told them the Bible says. Is God in control? If so, why do bad things happen to good people? How do we know the Bible can be trusted? Isn’t Christianity a white man’s religion forced onto slaves to coerce submission? Tonight we are going to explore the trauma that comes from the most unexpected place—the church. This one is personal. Stay tuned.
