From Mariner to Boardgame Maker: Josh was a fellow classmate at the US Merchant Marine Academy with Bill and I. After graduating, he spent several years sailing and was looking forward to coming ashore for his marriage but needed a transition plan. Josh has a strong entrepreneurial spirit and had many ideas but needed to focus his efforts and take the next step. Enter CATastrophe: A Game of 9 Lives, featuring several famous cats from around the world. Rather, the seed of an idea was planted in 2016, and all great stories begin with a sea story. This one does not disappoint. Josh brought his idea home to Abi, along with several other ideas along the way (tune in for some of the good, the bad, and the ugly ideas that fell to the wayside), but they focused their efforts and felt really drawn to creating this boardgame. Their knowledge really expanded in 2017 after attending Cat Con and Gen Con, where they learned a great deal about budget, kickstarters, and the thriving community of tabletop gaming.
Their mission statement: We are dedicated to promoting community and uniting people through play. We are passionate about making games that create an experience full of laughter, fun competition, and stunning artwork that leaves people wanting to play again and again.
Not just a game, but a memory!
—>Fast Forward to launching a Kickstarter in May of 2021. They had a professional prototype in hand but needed the funding to proceed with manufacturing. Their kickstarter campaign was a quick success, and everyone backing the game or pre-ordering had the physical game in their hands in November of 2022. 6+ years in the making, Josh is now officially a Boardgame Designer/Publisher.
