Listen "Anchored 32: Not My Will, but Yours"
Episode Synopsis
In the garden, Jesus faced unimaginable anguish as He prayed, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me. Nevertheless, not My will, but Yours be done.” Here we see both His full humanity and His perfect obedience. Though He longed to avoid the coming suffering, Jesus ultimately submitted to His Father’s will, finding strength not in escape, but in surrender. We often tell ourselves—or our children—to “follow your heart.” Yet Jesus shows us a better way: follow the Father. Our hearts, left unchecked, chase comfort, pleasure, and self-will, but God’s path—though it may lead through pain—always leads to joy. Like Jesus, we are called to root ourselves in Scripture and prayer, grounding our desires in God’s truth so that we can endure hardship with hope.True greatness, true peace, and true purpose come not from getting our way, but from trusting God’s way. The prayer of every disciple must echo Jesus’: “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
