Listen "Riya's Ramblings: Ep 72 - My Brother's Suberb Semester Abroad!"

Episode Synopsis

For this episode, I interviewed my brother who had an amazing semester abroad at ETH in Zurich, Switzerland.
You remember my episode about my visit to Switzerland this summer? We went there because my brother was there for a semester abroad!

Study abroad is where a college student spends a semester at
a university in a different country. The two universities typically have a reciprocal relationship but not always.

He highly recommends doing a semester abroad if
your college degree allows it. He had to plan it out and take extra classes in the semesters leading up to it but it was totally worth it.

He enjoyed the differences in educational
philosophy (more theoretical approach, course grade depends on a single final vs semester long quizzes, projects like in the US) and meeting folks from around the world.

Best part: Meeting people from around the world!
and learning about their customs, cultures, high school experiences
Worst part: Not being able to stay back in the
summer and high cost of living in Zurich. :( :(

(I can agree 100% to both! :)

One aspect that stood out was the public
transportation in Zurich and in Switzerland – lots of trains, always on time and easy to use.

Interesting observation: Everyone seemed a lot
more laid back – even in Zurich which is one of the more fast paced cities, Very different vibe from the time spent in NYC and Boston for internships

Of the 4 months he was abroad, he spent significant time traveling across Europe. Travel is much more affordable in Europe  and he managed to visit 15 countries! That's crazy!
His favorite trips: Amsterdam and Nice in Southern France.
He has a travel blog: www.rohanchhaya.com/travel-blog
