Episode Synopsis
Dr. Saran Heron talks with Dr. Margarett Alexandre, an associate professor at York College Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs, of the City University of New York (CUNY). As a Jonas Scholar and member of the New York Academy of Medicine, she earned her PhD at the CUNY Graduate Center. Dr. Alexandre received a master's in nursing and a certificate in gerontological nursing from Adelphi University. She has published in peer-reviewed nursing journals and serves as a manuscript reviewer. Founder and president of the Grandbois Youth Empowerment Mission Inc., which provides health, nutrition, and educational support to the Grandbois Community in Haiti. Dr. Alexandre recently added a memorial scholarship for pre-law and law students in her son’s name. She shares her son’s journey to being a lawyer, his health problem, work she is doing in Haiti, and how she continues to rise above her circumstances.
