Episode Synopsis

In this interview presented by Merran McLaren on Rights, Rorts and Rants, BMUC member Susan Lammiman tells the remarkable story of how, in 1996, she and five other women from Teesside, Northern England set off on an overland adventure with an important mission.  The mission the six women undertook was to take a truck borrowed from the local Labor Council and "Fran's Volvo",  from Middlesbrough across the North Sea by ferry, across Belgium and Germany to Banovici, Bosnia.  They carried 7 tons of goods in response to a request from Mersija, a Bosnian woman, for items needed to restore the dignity of women and children following the Bosnian War (1992-1995). [Note: the photo we have selected shows two of the English women, Sarah and Fran, with Bosnian children in front of the truck.
