Listen "New push to change US school hours gains momentum"
Episode Synopsis
According to the CDC, teens 13 - 17 should be clocking 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night. But more than 77% of high schoolers aren’t getting anywhere near that on school nights. Sleep experts are calling it a nationwide issue. There’s talk about pushing school start times back to let teens get the rest they need—and the benefits go way beyond fewer yawns during class. More sleep can mean fewer sick days, better grades, safer drivers, stronger athletes—even less dependency on substances just to stay focused.Still, it's not a one-size-fits-all solution. Later start times can be tough on parents' schedules, and there’s a time crunch on after-school activities. But the research is clear on the benefits for teens when they get more sleep.
